Story of Nandanpur - the other end of the democrazy!

Image
Let me start like... Once upon a time there was a village in India name Nandanpur. The villagers were very peace loving people, and  the village was kinda little far off in the countryside, there was very less outsiders' interference there. People were living with - 1. No roads - during rainy season, no one can enter the village without a bullock cart, similar to this video, would draw the picture: 2. No electricity - only kerosene available from Ration Shop (public distribution system): 3. No good water sources - water from wells and ponds: 4. Only a nearby Primary School. Students were walking 8kms to nearest high school. Then comes the Pancahyet election, they said, "ELECT us!". The villagers asked, "What changes would happen if we ELECT you?" There came  the reply, "Your village would get water, electricity ( so can watch TV serials 😂 ), roads, school, pond, and many more, you will live a much more happier life...". The villag

#WorldWaterDay - The Bangalore WATER Crisis

Image
For sometime I wanted to write few lines about Bangalore water crisis. And what better day to write about, other than today, the #WorldWaterDay.  I have a long relationship  with the city. In 90's I lived in the city for 6 years when I was studying in Indian Institute of Science and then my first job here. I loved the city more than any other  Indian city, because of it's people, beauty, weather. Its weather was so good that, we used to call it "The Air Conditioned City", there were so many trees were here that  we used to call this "The Garden City". After living in the US for some years, when I decided to come back, there was only one city that came in my mind, it was Bangalore. Last  3 years I am living here. The city is totally changed in last decade or so. The population has gone up by almost 10 folds since 90's. Everywhere concrete jungle. No space  left for making new roads or plantation. Oh, sorry I am deviating from what I wanted to

#WorldSparrowDay

Today, 20th March, the #WorldSparrowDay. From my childhood days they are one of my favorite BIRDS. In our village, we used to find them everywhere,  especially in the bamboo jungles, ...and the chirping of the sparrows in the mornings and evenings (closing my eyes, I can hear).  Unfortunately in the cities they are hard to find, because - 1. Low percentage of tree covers, and concrete jungle. 2. Difficult to find a natural drinking water source, specially in the summer time. As summer becoming hotter and hotter year by year, their population is decreasing with time. In fact this is true for any kind of BIRDS.  This summer if you can, put a bow of fresh water in your balcony /patio/terrace/backyard  for them to drink.  Who knows, you might find two POSE-ing for a cute photograph too ;-). Remembering the movie "Charachar" ("Shelter of the wings" - https://letterboxd.com/film/shelter-of-the-wings/ ) #RajitKapoor's acting... oh!  Belur Vidyamandira theke
